The Assisi DOC area was founded in 1997. Initially renown for extra-virgin olive oil, the area saw its wine-producing potential acknowledged.
The Grechetto is one of the few native varieties of this region and grapes give always birth to a structured and high-quality white wine.
The Sportoletti winery produces Grechetto since its foundation, showing a genuine passion for these regional grapes.
Intense straw yellow, delicate scents of jasmine, white peach and golden apple to the nose. Warm and smooth in the mouth, with a finish where mineral hints and a slight touch of fresh mint stand out.
The vineyards are all located at 300 m of altitude in the Assisi DOC area and are about 16 years old.
The soil is generally shallow with rich content in stones and organic matters due to Monte Subasio limestone erosion.
Harvest started in early September; due to high temperatures, harvest times were reduced to avoid a sudden drop in acidity and an excessive increase of sugar content.
Notwithstanding that, the alcoholic content was higher than the average, but the wine kept its typical balance.
The grapes are immediately brought to the winery, de-stemmed and macerated for about 6 hours before soft pressing.
Alcoholic fermentation is carried out in stainless steel, thermo-conditioned tanks at a temperature which never exceeds 16°C. Subsequently, the wine is refined for some months in bottles before being sold.
